This new GDDR7 DRAM chip boasts the industry's highest capacity and delivers ultra-fast speeds exceeding 40Gbps, setting a new standard for future high-performance applications. Samsung's 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM Chip Expands Applications Samsung's 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM Chip Expands Applications With its superior performance and high capacity, Samsung's 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM chip is expected to be widely used in a variety of fields requiring high-performance storage solutions, including data centers and AI workstations. This marks the expansion of graphics DRAM applications beyond traditional graphics cards, gaming consoles, and autonomous driving systems.
Samsung Strengthens Market Leadership and Drives Technological Innovation
"Following the launch of the 16Gb GDDR7 last year, Samsung further strengthens its technological leadership in the graphics DRAM market with the introduction of the 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM chip," said YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics. "We remain committed to meeting the growing demands of the AI market and continuously delivering innovative next-generation products."
Advanced manufacturing and signaling technologies enable a leap in performance
Samsung's 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM chip utilizes fifth-generation 10nm DRAM process technology, achieving a 50% increase in cell density while maintaining the same package size as the previous generation. Furthermore, this GDDR7 DRAM chip incorporates three-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM3) signaling technology, enabling it to achieve an industry-leading 40Gbps speed for graphics DRAM, a 25% increase over the previous generation. This performance can be further increased to 42.5Gbps under specific usage conditions.
Improving Energy Efficiency and Ensuring Stable Operation
To enhance energy efficiency and ensure stability at high speeds, Samsung's 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM chip utilizes technology originally developed for mobile devices for the first time in graphics DRAM. By employing methods such as clock control management and a dual VDD design, the chip significantly reduces unnecessary power consumption, achieving over 30% improvement in energy efficiency. Furthermore, power gating design technology effectively reduces current leakage, enhancing overall product reliability.
Commercialization Progress Accelerates, Verification Imminent
Samsung plans to begin verification of its 24Gb GDDR7 DRAM chips with major GPU partners this year, with mass production expected to begin early next year. This milestone demonstrates Samsung's commitment to embracing the upcoming wave of AI computing and presents new business opportunities for international chip trading companies.
