Samsung 256GB AM9C1: 8th Gen V-NAND PCIe 4.0 Automotive SSD
Samsung Launches AM9C1, Leading the Way in High-Performance In-Vehicle Storage Solutions
Seoul, South Korea – September 24, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading global supplier of advanced memory technology, today announced the development of the industry's first PCIe 4.0 automotive-grade SSD based on eighth-generation Vertical NAND (V-NAND). With its industry-leading read and write speeds and enhanced reliability, the new AM9C1 automotive SSD is an ideal solution for automotive applications with in-vehicle AI capabilities.
256GB AM9C1 Improves Energy Efficiency and Performance
The new 256GB AM9C1 automotive SSD offers approximately 50 percent greater energy efficiency than its predecessor, the AM991, and will deliver sequential read speeds of up to 4,400 megabytes per second (MB/s) and sequential write speeds of 400 MB/s. This makes the AM9C1 a high-performance, high-capacity automotive storage solution ideal for autonomous vehicles and other applications requiring significant data processing power.
Samsung Strengthens Collaboration with Global Autonomous Driving Manufacturers
“We are collaborating with global autonomous vehicle manufacturers by providing high-performance, high-capacity automotive products,” said Hyunduk Cho, Vice President and Head of the Automotive Group, Memory Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung will continue to lead the physical AI memory market, encompassing technologies from autonomous driving to robotics.”
5nm Controller and SLC Mode Enhance Performance
Based on Samsung's 5-nanometer (nm) controller and offering single-level cell (SLC) namespace functionality, the AM9C1 demonstrates high performance when handling large data files. By switching from its native triple-level cell (TLC) state to SLC mode, users can enjoy read speeds of up to 4,700MB/s and write speeds of 1,400MB/s, while also benefiting from the added reliability of an SLC SSD.
256GB AM9C1 Mass Production Imminent
The 256GB AM9C1 is currently sampling with key partners and is expected to enter mass production by the end of this year. To meet the growing demand for high-capacity automotive SSDs, Samsung plans to launch a variety of storage configurations, ranging from 128GB to 2 terabytes (TB). Mass production of the industry's largest 2TB model is scheduled to begin early next year.
Meets Strict Quality Standards
Through enhanced board-level testing, Samsung's new automotive SSD products meet the automotive semiconductor quality standard AEC-Q100 Grade 2, ensuring stable operation across a wide temperature range of -40°C to 105°C. This demonstrates that the AM9C1 not only leads in performance but also meets high standards for durability and stability.
Achieved Multiple Certifications
To further meet the automotive industry's high standards for durability and stability, Samsung has also implemented various quality assurance processes. In March of this year, the company received ASPICE CL3 certification for its UFS 3.1 product. Furthermore, Samsung is actively pursuing CSMS (Cybersecurity Management System) certification based on ISO/SAE 21434 to enhance the technical reliability and stability of its automotive solutions.
Samsung Continues to Improve Product Quality
"ASPICE and ISO/SAE 21434 certifications are milestones that confirm the reliability and stability of our technology," said Hwaseok Oh, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Memory Business. "Samsung will continue to enhance the stability and quality of its products to provide the best solutions to our key partners."
